Enhancing Cloud API Security with OAuth 2.1 and OpenID Connect Integration
Abstract
APIs serve as the backbone for communication in cloud-native applications but are vulnerable to unauthorized access and abuse. This paper proposes a secure API framework that integrates OAuth 2.1 and OpenID Connect to provide secure authentication, token-based access control, and user identity verification. The framework enforces token expiration, refresh policies, and scope-based permissions to minimize access risk. Real-time monitoring and anomaly detection are incorporated to identify and respond to suspicious API activity. Performance analysis demonstrates improved API response times and reduced unauthorized access incidents. The study concludes that OAuth 2.1 and OpenID Connect integration enhances API security in cloud environments.
